Most agents believe people leave their brokerage because of commission splits, but that explanation usually falls apart when you look closer. In my experience, agents leave because they aren’t getting the support they need to grow a consistent, predictable business. When growth slows and frustration builds, the split becomes the easy thing to blame, even though it’s rarely the real problem.

Over the years, I’ve seen the same five gaps keep popping up. When these are missing, even productive agents start to question whether staying where they are makes sense.

Marketing support that protects your time. Agents shouldn’t be spending late nights designing flyers, editing videos, or guessing what to post on social media. Your role is to produce and serve clients, not to take on the job of a designer or marketer.

A strong brokerage provides tools, templates, and plug-and-play marketing systems that are ready to use. When marketing support is built in, agents can focus on income-producing activities instead of burning time on tasks that slow growth.

A community that supports growth. Not every office creates a healthy environment. Some feel competitive, isolating, and draining, which makes an already demanding career even harder. A strong community looks different. It encourages collaboration, shared best practices, accountability, and open conversations. When agents feel supported by the people around them, they grow faster and are less likely to burn out from trying to do everything on their own.

A clear business plan with accountability. Most agents don’t struggle because they lack drive or ambition. They struggle because they lack structure and follow-through. A brokerage should help agents set clear goals, track progress, and stay consistent long enough to see results.

Growth takes time, and without accountability, it’s easy to lose momentum before progress becomes visible. Support keeps agents focused when motivation naturally rises and falls.

When agents decide to leave a brokerage, it’s rarely about money alone. It’s about missing coaching, missing systems, missing support, and missing direction. More agents are choosing environments that provide a clear roadmap instead of leaving success to chance.
